This mug is part of my experimental glaze series, combining playful surface design with functional kitchenware. The inspiration for this piece came from the inside of a kiwi fruit. I loved the contrast between the soft green centre, lighter outer tones, and the delicate pattern created by the seeds. Wanting to capture that natural colour palette within ceramics, I developed this piece using layered glazes and organic spotted detailing inspired by the fruit’s interior.
One of my favourite unexpected outcomes from this firing was that the “seeds” developed into a deep navy tone rather than black, giving the piece an extra level of uniqueness and depth. As with all pieces in this experimental series, each mug is slightly different, celebrating the unpredictable and exciting nature of glaze experimentation while still being made for everyday use.
